If people in society were scared of being put to death over these things, it goes without saying that they would be happening less. Psalm 19:7 - The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

The fact of the matter is that because hierarchy is needed in our fallen world, there are some that need to be masters and others who need to be servants. The institution of slavery could make them physically and mentally redeemable. Many people need to be humbled and they need something radical to humble them.
