Men can't be mothers or nuns, what's your point? Some religions acknowledge there's a difference between men and women?

Some religions repress women, and some countries are worse then others but in the west, I'd say women have as many or more rights then men.

@Mcmarie90 men can not be mothers . is a non valid point. like saying woman can pee standing up .. see its a bad response. . try again please
women should have every right as a man .. including going to war and fighting .. or being police . and this is just my thought

@markinkansas In Ukraine women can go to war and fight, some do. We also have police women here, and that's despite having quite different gender roles in society. (=
In the Ten Commandments, wives are considered the property of males
Exodus 20:17 “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.” KJV (The Commandments are addressed to males. This is repeated in Deuteronomy 5:21.)

Wives are swappable property
Jeremiah 8:9–10 “Since they have rejected the word of the Lord, what kind of wisdom do they have? Therefore I will give their wives to other men and their fields to new owners.” NIV

A daughter is property of the father, to be sold as a slave or given as a wife
Exodus 21:7–9 “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do. If she does not please her master, who has designated her for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed; he shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt faithlessly with her. If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her as with a daughter.” RSV (This is in the chapter immediately after the Ten Commandments.)

Females have lower monetary value
Leviticus 27:1–7 “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Say to the people of Israel, When a man makes a special vow of persons to the Lord at your valuation, then your valuation of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. If the person is a female, your valuation shall be thirty shekels. If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, your valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels. If the person is from a month old up to five years old, your valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver. And if the person is sixty years old and upward, then your valuation for a male shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels.’” RSV
(Notice that the adult female/male ratio was 3/5, the same as the early American Constitutional “Three-Fifths Compromise” over the value of slaves.)

@markinkansas Claiming women don't have as many rights and then saying that biological differences don't matter in the discussion is disingenuous at best.
And what is your definition of "rights"? The ability to do something? Who is the grantor of those "rights"? Where does the "right" stop? Can (or should) you force your "rights" on other cultures?
You're cherry picking examples from religion to claim women don't have as many rights, and then in your follow-up you give examples that don't mesh with the western world. We do have women in the army, on police forces, in construction. This leads me to believe that you live in a country where women do not have such rights, maybe a Muslim majority country? And if that's the fact, don't speak generally, as any generalization will oversimplify the overarching point your trying to make.
How about this:
"In country X, women do not have ABC rights that women in country Y have, why is that?".

@Mcmarie90 How about things like medical research about women being more difficult in America because the word "women" have been added to a list of words that are excemt from certain literature and stuff? I don't really know a whole lot about it because I'm not even American, but it's just to say that feminism is important in modern countries too.
Mcmarie90 · 31-35, F
@Nightwings Equal rights for all is a noble goal, there's nothing wrong with that. That is also a good overarching goal and way to state it. But when you get into details, it's important to know the scope and context of the specific situation, and social media is not conducive to those kinds of discussions.

@Mcmarie90 I find that no one ever had a good time discussing anything even remotely political online. /=
