What if I told you there were pleasant, polite people who are actually happy for you to witness about God too? Yep, the heretical Jehovah's Witnesses have stands all around and they will debate ESSENTIAL theology with you. I will go over what happened, advice I have received and fellow GENUINE believers, I would love your input.
In the age of "You're a fellow conservative so you must be a Christian too" I'm afraid I will use direct language and say discernment today is piss poor. Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT Christians. They reject the Trinity, say God destroyed Jesus's body and say Jesus rose spiritually and not bodily, amongst many other problematic beliefs.
My conversation with Sammy, a JW
I was grabbing some lunch supplies and saw their stand manned by a man and two women. I decided to introduce myself and admit I went to a Reformed Baptist Church.
Sammy: "You know the idea of the Trinity wasn't invented until the Council Of Nicea right?" Me: "It was officially formulated then but believed well before" I was only partially correct, I will give you a better answer later in the next section.
Sammy: " So God is three distinct Persons? Hard for me to wrap my head around" Me: "Yes, that is why He is God. If we could comprehend Him, He wouldn't be God"
Me: "What do you believe happened to Christ's body?" Sammy "God destroyed it and gave him a new one. Why did the disciples not recognise Christ until he broke bread with them?" Me: "Psychological factors like grief and not believing He had raised, His glorified body, etc."
Points to raise with them
. This is one is brought to you especially by my pastor so a special thanks for his contribution- when they say the Spirit is not God The Holy Spirit but a "force". Ask them why then in Acts 5 is the Holy Spirit treated like a Person? To add to the death blow, ask them why Peter says "You have not lied to men but to God.” Odd choice of words for an "impersonal force".
. When they say the Trinity was an invention of the Council of Nicea mention to them one of the earliest references was actually Justin Martyr, Ignatius of Antioch and 1 Clement. All long before Nicea.
. If you're feeling especially bold mention secular scholars who have no faith and no interest in Christendom, hold the majority view that their New World translation is the worst translation on the market.
. Why didn't Jesus appear in 1914 as The Watchtower predicted?
