Curious: Are there any Christians out there today (or anyone else for that matter) who think Humans are not Animals?

I've seen it here and there that some people (usually religious) don't want to believe that human are animals.
Which is crazy to me because what else are we?! lol

The question is of the flesh. I don't believe I'm my flesh but that there's some eternal spirit that resides inside.
@Lostpoet

So...is that a yes or a no?
Lostpoet · M
@Pikachu Yes, I don't believe I'm a Mammal. I don't believe I'm my flesh and bones. Those things stay in the dirt when cellular respiration is no longer a thing.
@Lostpoet

As far as we've ever been able to observe, nothing goes on after your body turns to dirt.
What makes you think that the ineffable something that is you is not simply a product of the matter that makes up your body?
Have you ever seen a mind without a brain?
Lostpoet · M
@Pikachu I don't know it doesn't feel like it. I think they have a saying that, "the product is the sum of its whole or something like that."
@Lostpoet

The whole is more than the sum of its parts. Gestalt.

Well i get that feelings are often more convincing to our monkey brains than is data.

But at least your body is an animal's body.
Maybe there's some supernatural quality that exists beyond the animal body but we've never observed it.

@Pikachu Animal magnietcism? And I think the fact that we study spiritualism is something.

If we are just animals then we are the only ones that study.
@Lostpoet

What something do you think it is?
Lostpoet · M
@Pikachu It's a force of some kind that is eternal and I also believe in the Bible and Christianity.
@Lostpoet

Sorry, i mean what do you think is the special something that results in us studying spiritualism?

Why do you believe that, that is the result of an actual spiritual element to the universe rather than simply a product of our ability to conceptualize and imagine?
Lostpoet · M
@Pikachu I guess the highly evolved Neocortex is why we are smart enough to study, but I still think there's a force controlling our brain and that is our spirit.
@Lostpoet

Well that's the thing, right?
Pretty much everything we do, other animals can do to greater or lesser degrees.
So what reason is there to conclude that there is some supernatural force beyond our biology and evolution which makes you more than an animal?
Lostpoet · M
@Pikachu I guess it's just me relying on faith and what I've been taught since birth.
@Lostpoet

Well i can't argue against faith.
I don't think faith can or ever has been a reliable means to determine what is true but i can't logically defeat a position that is not contingent upon logic
