We always hear about the horrors of Christianity
Through the pre modern eras, but we always seem to fail to see its awful hand in turning America into a festering, hateful and fearful nation.
It is no wonder Christians support trump. He is an authoritarian. God is an authoritarian. They are comfortable being controlled because they have always been controlled by the fear of God's wrath. When it is mimicked in politics, it makes perfect sense to them. Men can't be trusted if they aren't being controlled by god.
Ergo, a nation can't be trusted unless it is led by god, by a person who shows the same tyrannical traits as god, instilling fear of anyone not Christian.
No matter how "modern" we think ourselves, this nation has always been controlled by people who desperately want to be viewed as chosen by god and that person can unleash inhuman and monsterous punishments to every person against that person.
It makes sense to them because that is god in the bible. Retribution by god for those who have been persecuted by non believers.
If you want a nation run by a god who kills his own creations indiscriminately, based on how much his followers dislike those people and feel oppressed by them, then you are, in turn, an inhuman monster acting in inhuman ways assuming your ideas are based in godly morality and goodness, though that is furthest from what Jesus ever said.
It isn't. It never was. It was about people desperate to use the most powerful avenues to gain as much power as possible at any costs, including using and dismantling those who faithfully serve, thinking they are going to get some great reward.
I imagine in their end, their trip to hell is going to be quite a shock to them, thinking that forcing everyone they can to bow to their beliefs was somehow good and kind.
Organized religion is a scourge that will eventually kill us all.
