On discernment and bias.

[media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdxW-BOEURo&t=289s]

This will be another post that won't be popular but it is necessary for discernment.

Ages ago I made a post saying Trump's proffesion of faith was not genuine, I used a great video Justin Peters did on this (he is a Trump voter himself).

What happened? A certain Christian poster and their bizarre sidekick started screaming like a banshee at me, distracting the post (I even said Kamala and Biden weren't Christians either).

I have now blocked them so you all can listen undistracted (this post was not my reason for blocking them, blocked them ages ago).

Please listen to 0:55-1:12 (I assume you're not watching the whole video) that is a pure works based salvation.

And look at the "faith office", it is led by a Biblically unqualified pastor and does not go by a proffesion of faith.

Once again a reminder to not have worldly heroes and that as Christians we are not called to influence government policy, but to spread the Gospel.

@FreddieUK On the other hand, if you happen to HAVE great political power, you can do great things for "the least of these my brethren."

Now, in that context, let's talk about the shutdown of USAID.

... a new study published Monday in the medical journal, the Lancet. The study estimates that USAID programs have saved over 90 million lives over the past two decades. The researchers also estimate that if the current cuts continue through 2030, 14 million people who might have otherwise lived could die.

"Is [USAID] a good use of resources? We found that the average taxpayer has contributed about 18 cents per day to USAID," says James Macinko, a health policy researcher at UCLA and study co-author. "For that small amount, we've been able to translate that into saving up to 90 million deaths around the world."

Keeping USAID running is an easily achievable objective for the president, and doing so would save FAR MORE lives than ending the war in Ukraine. And, best of all, they're not mutually exclusive! tRump could start USAID's health initiatives back up with an order and a signature, and then turn right back to the Ukraine war.

Thus, tRump's FAILURE to save far more lives via USAID puts into question his commitment to "works righteousness" and to Christianity in general.

@ElwoodBlues You are right in every respect.

Absolutely spot on. There is only one Messiah and he was never allied to a political party when he lived under a brutal, authoritarian occupying force.
@FreddieUK Yes, Christ (God the Son) never really mentioned politics but he always mentioned God's kingdom!

Amazing. No calls anywhere in the NT for Christians to get involved in government.

There are ofcourse limits when a government does evil- I am reminded of the French Calvinists under Nazi occupied France who helped the Jews flee safety to Britain, etc.
