A bragging brother.

This could all be me and I'm sure there was a pang of envy here.

At fellowship at church today I talked to a visiting couple because their church was currently closed.

The man in the couple told me he's an account manager... great , so far nothing wrong with that, I always got on well with the sales department in my former company and I did sales awhile myself.

What didn't sit well with me was when he said it it pays the bills (nothing wrong there) but then he boasted that he's got plenty of spare money to do what he wants.

I was British about it and maybe my face only changed subtly but that didn't sit well with me. When I'm living off redundancy money and cannot do such things I don't want to hear statements like that.

In the car my wife agreed with my persective but there's certainly more layers.

Satan probably used that statement to try and get me envious, in a subtle way. "It's not as if he's an unbeliver, he's a believer who's doing better than you, surely God should give you such blessings too?"

Nothing wrong with celebrating, when I land a new job I will certainly celebrate and tell people at fellowship but I won't brag if it pays well.

Just a reminder to watch your words during fellowship.

Also a reminder to myself that God is sovereign over all of life's events and he has a path for me and I get to enjoy God's glory and blessings just as much as the brother that accidentally offended.

Culturally, we Brits don't like talking about money anyway and are suspicious of people who do. But because Sunday worship is intended to take our minds beyond worldly matters to think more broadly about how the Spirit in our lives releases us from being concerned about money, it's no wonder that you were uncomfortable with that conversation. I would expect that kind of chat after worship to only be in somewhere that preaches the heretical 'prosperity gospel'.
@FreddieUK Yes he was saying other things that aren't boastful in themselves but...... tone.

Councillor mum and dad into NLP you really pay attention to these things! 😅
