I really do not read the Bible much, but I did go to a church where the pastor repeated so many scriptures with the chapter and verse, I could not even write them down fast enough. He always spoke from the KJV, and sometimes he would repeat it with the Amplified version.

Later in life I am finding out that learning Hebrew can and will make the Bible more clear and more real than ever.

@Diotrephes I want to believe you, but I do not. Why should I believe you, and if I did, what do the writings you believe in mean?
accidentprone · 22-25, M
@accidentprone It is my belief that the Hebrew translation is the most accurate.

I have read through many Bible translations including King James Version, New Revised Standard Version, Holman Christian Standard Bible, New American Standard Bible, New International Version, The Living Bible, New Living Translation, The Message, New King James Bible, English Standard Version, Christian Standard Bible, and maybe one or two more.

I have used a number of different reading plans that have started in Genesis and ended in Revelation. I have read Chronological Bibles, and One Year Bibles.

I am currently reading from a New International Version Bible. However one of my favorite reading Bibles is the New Living Translation (NLT). I would recommend it to any new bible reader.

i read the KJV old to new. i am an atheist / most of my atheist friends have also read the Bible I glazed over psalams / sorta skipped that chapter.

i think some of the more interesting reads for bibilical writings are not in the KJV or NIV

for instance the book of Daniel in Luthern Bible Daniel slays a dragon. I mean can you have a religious book without some dragon slayen' in it?

The Infancy Gospel of Thomas / talks about teenage JC
I read parts of the book of Mormon before but long ago forgot about it.

When I first got into tech sales I went to a Hindu temple and Hindu Krishna is like JC but a much older religion--except one idea--he was playboy .However the structure was really similar. Genders were segregated during services and everyone sat on the floor. Hindu are beilevers in reincarnation as opposed to Heaven.

If you are open to comparitie religion as a topic here is a quick list (but not complete list) of Gods that died and were resurrected before the story of Jesus.

it is remarkable how much they borrow from one another.

@robertsnj Have you ever read in in the Hebrew?
robertsnj · 56-60, M
@accidentprone just in english
accidentprone · 22-25, M
@robertsnj English is good, but Hebrew is the best.
I started in the New Testament with the Gospels. King James Version. Nowadays, I’m reading NKJV, KJV, and ESV.

New Testament because I felt I needed to be familiar with Jesus and his teachings. I read the Revised Standard Version first.

The Geneva Bible was the most widely used of the 16th and 17th Century and was the one used by William Shakespeare.

I have it downloaded on my smartphone and a large hard copy edition at home.

I read the Old Testament only in the light of the New Testament. I like the Jerusalem Bible. (Not the New Jerusalem Bible).
Pfuzylogic · M
There are so many unintelligent scientific theories like “big bang” that I go to Genesis for the truth.
There are also stories about Abraham and Joseph as well as Adam there and if you look closely you will find prophecies about Jesus.
If you are saved through the resurrection of Jesus, the version of Holy Bible (although I don’t recommend the Jehovah Witness version) doesn’t matter because the Holy Spirit inside you will always aid your understanding.

King James Version. Always. Translated by a bunch of drunken Englishmen, some of whom knew Greek. The best translation I've read is the New Jerusalem edition, translated from the original Greek and Aramaic into French and then into English with lots of footnotes as to why they did what they did. But the King James version is what Christianity is based on.

New Testament! Why? Because it makes the Old Testament so much easier to understand… and I promise it helps! If you read it in that order and study it as you go, it will all come together for you! I read KJV but I’ll use other versions if I don’t get it
While praying and asking God for understanding.

@NoGamesTolerated i agree, i started with the old testament and got frustrated. I went to th3 new testament it makes more sense to me
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
old KJV, best to read in sequential order, old testament gives context to new testament

other non canonical books I recommend are Book of Enoch & Jubilees (both referenced in Bible)
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@Diotrephes both I have are the 1917 R.H. Charles translations from dead sea scrolls

Jude references/quotes book of Enoch, as well as Epistle to the Hebrews and Peter 1 and 2
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
Jubilees is often referred to as "little genesis" as it covers much of the same material as the canonical Genesis, but with more detail

I started in the Old Testament and read right through to the end of the New Testament..

But if a seeker asks me i always recomment for them to read the New Testament first..

I read the New King James Bible..

Now i stick with the King James Bible..
If you started with the New Testament, wouldn't you be lost? It would be like watching the MCU movies out of order.
Iwillwait · M
I use a 365 Day Bible, with one Old Testament and one New Testament w/1 Proverbs reading every day.
saintsong · 41-45, F
I like the NIV with red letters and a concordance in the back!
accidentprone · 22-25, M
@saintsong I do too, but the Hebrew does make it better.
