Christianity a religion of peace?

King Olaf Tryggvason of Norway to the pagan folk or Orkney 995 AD:

"I order you and all your subjects to be baptised. If you refuse, I'll have you killed on the spot and I swear I will ravage every island with fire and steel."
- The Orkneyinga Saga Ch 12

It doesn’t sound all that different to the videos made by Islamic State ten years ago. Another poisonous Abrahamic religion…

Was King Olaf Tryggvason the LORD Jesus ????

NOPE...

Christianity is what Jesus said not what some olden days king of Norway said..

Quote the Holy Bible to see what The Gospel is not some Norse Saga..

@Adstar No he was just following his gods example if how to deal with people who are different.

@Adstar Really, in essence, you only subscribe to a different Saga.

😀
@Ceinwyn Read the whole context of that verse, it wasn't condoning such behaviour.

Israel was in a time of physical and spiritual chaos.

@Ceinwyn A Christian is a follower of the LORD Jesus and so follows His example...

@CorvusBlackthorne
Do you have any proof of the existence of King Olaf??

What evidence do you have of the existence of King Olaf ??
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@Adstar There’s his grave. And recorded history of his behaviour. More than what there is for this Jesus fella.
@Ceinwyn You won't find Jesus's grave, as he was raised from death after 3 days, you will however find the graves which contain the skeletons of people your pagan Gods and Goddesses are based on.
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic Yeah? Show me a god’s grave.
@Ceinwyn Show me an ancient grave of a man or woman that was revered- that is who and where your gods and godesses are .
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic I can only speak for my own religion: People can’t be gods.

Now Christian saints. The get prayed to all the time. And strangely Christian’s show their love by keeping little bits of them. Which is creepy, but then when you let creepy foreign gods who let you eat and drink them get into your home, shit happens.
@Ceinwyn Roman Catholics and Orthodox venerate saints, not worship them. I don't personally.
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic No I don’t blame you. Very sensible.

I understand the idea of them being strong or brave or enduring something to be closer to their god. That’s similar to the practice I believe. But to prey to them? And to keep bits of the dead bodies? A curious business.
@Ceinwyn Well their logic is as they are part of the body of Christ, they are still alive in heaven and can hear you.

Not my cup of tea but I am Anglican with reformed theology.

@BritishFailedAesthetic I struggle to tell the difference between the various denominations to be honest.

Weird question going off track a bit: After you die, and you travel to heaven - I’m sure you will, we don’t agree but you’re not bad - if on your way up you discover the people you love have gone to the other place, would you still want heaven?
@Ceinwyn
if on your way up you discover the people you love have gone to the other place, would you still want heaven?

Yes. In heaven/new earth believers (and children) will have their minds perfectly renewed by God so we will not think the same way.

In heaven for example no-one is married, those earthly ties just don't exist anymore
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic So, if someone you couldn’t bare to be without, a wife or a child was not in heaven when you got there you would just be okay with that? Not judging just sizing up our differences of thinking.
@Ceinwyn Our minds wiuld be renewed in eternal joy, so no room for sadness.

Children get heaven anyway, regardless.
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic not the unbaptised ones.
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic but if the person you love is in hell, how can they be renewed?
@Ceinwyn Yes, the unbaptised ones. I am reformed in my theology, baptism is not essential for salvation.
@Ceinwyn The person in hell cannot be renewed. The saved in heaven will not think as they do now on earth.
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic So you would be without them?

I would find that a torment. In my faith there is only one possible destination. It varies depending on who you are, how you have lived. But it’s just one place. All go there.
@Ceinwyn Sure in our current body it would be a torment, but in new perfected bodies it wouldn't.
