Had an intense debate with a pastor.

Nothing serious but he was dismissing 1 Corinthians 12 which says that women should cover their heads to pray and men should uncover their heads to pray. I said that in order to maintain Biblical integrity women should cover their head and men should uncover theirs. Nothing was settled and we just let it go. So shortly after that discussion which was held in private a woman from the church came to my wife and asked where my wife gets her head coverings. My wife explains that she crochets them. They are easy to make and she loves to crochet. The other woman asked if my wife would make one for her. My wife agreed and next Sunday gave her nice little tie on,, triangular head band with a small cross on the back corner. The woman was thrilled with it and began wearing it right away. In the mean time three other women have begun to wear something on their head and yesterday a lady came up to my wife and asked if my wife would make her a head covering like my wife wears. My wife is sitting beside me her head covering on and her fingers working diligently making another head covering for a lady in that debating pastor's church. Not sure you call it a revival but from one lady to 5 ladies in a few months none of whom were aware that the pastor and I had disagreed on that subject. The LORD works in mysterious ways.

Many women have worn mantillas (head coverings) since the time of Christ. It really isnt something new.

That verse should be read in context though. Paul was laying out the norms of the time in order for people to present themselves with respect. It is the same as if I say today "men should wear a suit to church". Of course you dont have to because it has nothing to do with faith but it will make you presentable in church. Or if you go for a job interview, i would tell you the same thing.

@Random3838 Nice try. No sale. If as is written all scripture is God breathed then why is this passage still in there if it is just a cultural thing? What is that reference to the angels? Why is so much of that space taken up with what you could dismiss as trivia? Does that passage of being faithful in the small things come into play? All of which does not begin to touch on the more spiritual aspects of this passage.

@hippyjoe1955 dont get me wrong. I think mantillas are great and i love seeing women use them. But it is not a mandate for christians to wear them and it shouldnt be taken as that. Remember what was said in Acts 15 and putting restrictions on people.

@Random3838 So if it is not a mandate what is it? A suggestion? A cute idea? A bit of trivia you should ignore so you don't upset the feminists?
Random3838 · 36-40, M
@hippyjoe1955 it is what i initially said. I am not retyping it.

@Random3838 So you like so many moderns think you are smarter than the Guy who wrote the book. Sadly the joke is on you. You have no idea what is being missed.

@hippyjoe1955 do you tell women not to speak in church? Because Paul, just a few chapters later, says that women should keep silence in the churches.

We should read scripture in context.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Random3838 Actually yes I do tell women to be silent in church. I went to one church and they had a guest speaker. A woman. I got up and walked out. I didn't do that because she was a woman but because the Bible says that she should not be there doing that. Either the Bible is correct in everything or it is completely wrong. You can not have it both ways. That isn't legalism. That is being faithful and honest.

@hippyjoe1955 well, i am sorry to hear that you think christianity is like that.

Just to be clear, this is NOT christian doctrine.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Random3838 So you think the Bible is not Christian or at least not a sound guide in your Christianity? Really? Now that is FUNNY!!!! You are not a Christian you're a feminist. Huge difference.
