Question for Christians

How easy is it for you to be accepting of atheists? In particular, the rude and aggressive ones.

Lately I'm getting pretty irritated by a special kind of atheist, the ones that just stop by Christian posts and leave a 馃槀 or who make posts belittling or attacking Christians. It seems to be happening more often recently and I've had them pop up on posts that have nothing to do with Christianity.

I think everyone should be able to voice what they believe in a respectful way and its really bothering me that some people can't be kind or just pass on by if it's not in alignment with their world view.

How do you manage this kind of thing? Do you just ignore or do you block? Lately I'm blocking in order to protect my own mental health.

I am not Christian but i am religious. When you talk about your religious views online, you run the risk of having all sorts of people comment and say things you dont like. It is what it is.

@Torsten I understand that and I'm less bothered by people engaging in meaningful debate than I am with people just being hurtful, an example would be using the term "flying spaghetti monster" instead of your God or saying "the Jesus character" instead of Jesus.

@Patientlywaiting fair, i get that would be annoying. rare times I have mentioned my beliefs, i have not had atheists try starting shit but more so Christians who always go with the "there is only one true god" shtick.
which is irritating but cant be annoyed because if you open yourself up, people will try and put your beliefs down to prop themselves up. Seems to be insecurity in a way
Patientlywaiting46-50, F
@Torsten why is it irritating to say there is only one true God?
Torsten36-40, M
@Patientlywaiting because its them trying to discredit my beliefs to prop up their own
Patientlywaiting46-50, F
@Torsten isn't that just meaningful debate though? I mean I can see a problem if there's disrespect. What do you believe in?
Torsten36-40, M
@Patientlywaiting you can look at it like that. I personally dont need to put down others beliefs to prop mine up though. I am not insecure about my faith. That is the vibe i get from those people
Norse paganism

@Torsten ok I think that's many Gods isn't it? Do you not feel you want other people to come to your religion? As a Christian that's why I would tell my story so others might be motivated to find out more and maybe get to know Jesus for themselves.

@Patientlywaiting it is. nah i dont really care about others coming into my religion at all. I think the more you try to force such thing on others, the more they will run the other way. I get your religion encourages spreading it to others. Mine doesnt though, so its different

@Torsten some Christian people are a little over excited which I understand because it feels like you suddenly know the cure for cancer but it's not helpful to those who are not there yet.

@Patientlywaiting which no offence is what i think gives Christianity such a bad impression on others
