"Progressive" Christians be like

"Noooo, you're so ignorant! The Bible doesn't say to kill homosexuals! It's a translation error, it actually says we should kill child rapists and also the raped child - surely you agree with that?! Being gay or trans isn't a sin! It says sodomites (meaning anyone having sex in any position other than vaginal - penis to vagina - which includes queer people as those are literally unable to have that kind of sex) and effeminate men (meaning gender non-conforming men and possibly also trans women) won't go to heaven if they don't repent! See what a wonderful, progressive religion Christianity is???"

Yes it does.
It's a translation error, it actually says we should kill child rapists and also the raped child - surely you agree with that?!
It's not a translation error. Do people actually say that? The Bible doesn't say we should kill anyone.
Being gay or trans isn't a sin!
Yes it is. Being human is a sin.
It says sodomites (meaning anyone having sex in any position other than vaginal - penis to vagina - which includes queer people as those are literally unable to have that kind of sex) and effeminate men (meaning gender non-conforming men and possibly also trans women) won't go to heaven if they don't repent!
Not many people go to heaven. Physically no one goes to heaven. Most people won't go to heaven. 144,000 people of all the people who've ever lived will go to heaven in spirit form. The Bible does say that of the 144,000 going to heaven none of them have been with a woman. Some misinterpret that to mean that the 144,000 are gay men only but that is absurd. It means none were ever a part of false religion. False religions are metaphorically referred to as prostitutes.
See what a wonderful, progressive religion Christianity is???
I suppose in a sense that is true. To the Sodomites and other gentiles around ancient Israel keeping catamites (young boy temple prostitutes), pedophilia, homosexuality and beastiality were commonly accepted. To the Greeks and many Native Americans pederasty was commonly accepted. So you think we are going forward or backward?
@BibleData You said the Bible does say to kill homosexuals, but then you say the Bible doesn't say we should kill anyone. I'm confuzzled.
BibleData · M
@BohemianBoo Correct. The ancient Israelites were to kill witches, homosexuals, etc. We aren't ancient Israelites. Christians were not to kill anyone.
@BibleData So the Bible does say to kill people, but it was only for the ancient Israelites. Since then, Yahweh changed his mind.
BibleData · M
@BohemianBoo Sort of. The Bible records the history of ancient Israel, who's laws included some of those capital offenses and others. Jehovah had an arrangement, a covenant with them. The ancient Israelites didn't live up to the agreement, and rejected the Messiah, so Jehovah dissolved the arrangement. So, yes, Jehovah changed his mind.
@BibleData Which is funny, since he's supposed to be perfect and all.

@Emosaur Your misinterpretation of the Bible is influenced by apostate Christianity. You need to learn the history of that at least before you begin to understand the Bible and can call it a contradiction. In fact, every stupid argument you make (and you make a lot) is caused by your obstinate ignorance.

I assume you are talking about my statement that perfection is a subjective term? It isn't a contradiction. To me God is perfect. To you he isn't.

@BibleData Since Jesus had only a human mother, his chromosomes were XX, so he was a biological female who presented as male.

@LeopoldBloom
Since Jesus had only a human mother, his chromosomes were XX, so he was a biological female who presented as male.
[Laughs]

You don't think maybe that might be stretching?

It would appear that what God did in that case was by intrauterine insemination of Mary with the sperm of Joseph.
BibleData · M
@Emosaur
Ah, so I could say I'm gonna kill you and at the same time not say it?
Of course.

@Emosaur Contradiction is a combination of statements, ideas, or features of a situation that are opposed to one another; a person, thing, or situation in which inconsistent elements are present; the statement of a position opposite to one already made.

So, where is the contradiction and how is it a contradiction?

@Emosaur Yes it can and I explained that. What you should do now is address my explanation. Since you're so eager to be intellectually superior.

There was a capital offence of homosexuality in ancient Israel. It never applied to Christians.

Christians didn't have a law, nor were they instructed to kill anyone for any reason.

@Emosaur Just respond to the facts, please.

@Emosaur So you have no response to the facts? What you thought about Christianity is totally irrelevant. Address the facts.

@Emosaur
Yeah, I'm definitely gonna address the "facts" uttered by someone who thinks the Bible both does and doesn't promote killing.
I didn't say anything about promotion. Just because Adam was told not to touch the tree doesn't mean that you or Christians can't touch the tree. You understand that? Just because Noah was to build an ark doesn't mean you or Christians have to build an ark. You see, with your intellectual superiority? Just because the ancient Israelites were told to kill homosexuals and not eat pork doesn't mean you or Christians have to kill homosexuals or not eat pork. Are you catching on, Einstein?

@Emosaur
Oh, and I'm guessing just because Bible characters were told to believe in the Abrahamic god doesn't mean we have to?
Correct.
