The site that once was the city of Babylon is part of what is now Iraq. It's been little more than a site of historical interest for thousands of years.

Most people think it wa in modern Iraq, but that’s just a pretender who rulers liked the name and mystique of the city. The real Babylon is modern Alexandria, Eygpt, which was much farther inland in the times before the ice age ended. That isn’t even the full truth, the truth is Babylon was a nation state largely made up or cities, which spaned parts of Africa, Asia and all of Arabia. Much like the people of Easter Island Babylon used up most most of its wood resources and help turn it into the desert 🐪 we know today. Many of Babylons great cities live beneath flowing sands. These sands are the reason the Revelations says “sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off.” By the time the Bible was first formulated Babylon significantly far in desertification of Arabia and only its Eygptian, Central East African, and Iraq sections remained and mostly thrived.

@Greyjedi Huh and here all this time I thought Egypt was south of Israel. Not north as the ancient Israelis said when invaded by Babylonian forces. So you are saying that the Egyptians are Persians?
Greyjedi · M
@hippyjoe1955 like any where no one pure ethnicity. Egypt did have some Persian influence, thats where the seeds for monotheism came from. Egypt and Israel are very close to each other.

@Greyjedi The last "ice age", or more accurately the Last Glacial Maximum of what is probably a continuing ice-age, ended 10 000 - 12 000 years ago so too far back for any of the Mediterranean or even Asian, civilisations with their cities.

However, North Africa was a lot more fertile then; and human activity has certainly helped destroy that.

Sea levels hence the Mediterranean coast were nearly as they are now by the time of the Assyrians, Ancient Egyptians, Hebrews etc.; i.e. within the last 4000 years.

Where all these people were from is probably conjectural, as there were likely many migrations back and forth; especially if pushed by changes such as encroaching deserts.
Babylon is pretty much any place Christians think is immoral and corrupt. So who knows if the verses are talking about the actual place or just a metaphor. Also it's Revelation, which is apocryphal.
Greyjedi · M
@canusernamebemyusername that’s true and ironic since Christians are some of the most corrupt people in the world these day.
