Why does God use the pronoun us in Genesis 1:26?

In Genesis 1:26 God said let us make man in our image after our likeness. Who is the us and the our image and the our likeness referring to?

Genesis 1 : 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

John 1:1-3 states that Christ was with God in the beginning, that He made all that was made. "Us" refers to Jehovah, or Christ, and Michael, or Adam,
@57phoseman John 1:1-3 states no such thing. It was the Trinity, who was conferring amongst themselves about creation, when they said "us". Michael or Adam???? Where in the world did you come up with that, as there's no place in the Bible that says that and if there is, please send the scripture. Read John 1:1-3 again. What Bible are you using? The Bible according to John White or someone else? Say what you will. God said, any other book besides the His own, is not written nor given by the authority of God.

[c=BF0000]"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you, than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:8[/c]

We cannot read into the Bible, what we wish it said, because no other spiritual beings in heaven were mentioned in that conversation. The emphasis being, that God let us know it was He that was doing the conferring, and he alone....

Genesis 1 : 26 AndGod said, Let us make man inour image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

NOT after the likeness of any other creatures in heaven or outer space. Further, he would not have been talking to the angels or any other creatures, not even principalities, because they do not have the power to create like God did. God wanted us to know that it was he and he alone, that created everything. No one else gets credit for that and no one else deserves it.

@LadyGrace We know these things by modern revelation. You may find these truths in the Doctrine &Covenants, The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ, and The Pearl of Great Price. The Heavens are not closed up.
@57phoseman Jesus is the only one that claimed to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I understand what you're saying but all the other books in the world can never compare nor match up with God's Own Word. It is God that said to take only his own Word. It covers everything he wants us to know, for the whole world, so why do we need all these other books? They don't match up with His Word and he said if they don't, to leave them alone. That is what he meant when he mentioned "any other gospel".

"But though we,or an angel from heaven, preachany other gospelunto you, than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:8

And notice what he said at the end! Let them be accursed! That's how important his own Word is to him and for us. He tells us it and it alone is the truth. He said any other way will not work. He said that. And for good reason. What God Says is the truth and he is not a liar so we don't need all these other books that have other ideas in them about salvation and claim you can get to Heaven by Good Works. God said no! That will not work! And I don't know about you, but I would rather trust God any day, over man and his man-made philosophies. The other books do not hold the truth, God's truths.
@LadyGrace Debating over whether the angels were involved in creation with God or just God by himself is not a false gospel at all, it is just a debate that in my mind is more academic.
@SpiritualMan I appreciate your thoughts on this but it does make a difference. It makes a big difference because we don't want to get what the gospel says, wrong. The Bible says if we teach something different then it is false teaching.
@LadyGrace Except that if the bible isn't clear we ARE ALLOWED to speculate and discuss different positions on unclear things, or do you have a perfect interpretation of EVERY LITTLE thing in the bible?
