Mathew 20:19 as well as at least 10 other scriptures say on the third day he was raised. Not three days and nights. Perhaps this one scripture was misinterpreted Mathew 12:40. Not only that countless scriptures say many other things took place on the third day meaning the significance of the third day as well as other things that took place on the seventh day like the landing of Noah’s Ark, reason being the significance of the seventh day. Mark 16 and 17 thoroughly explain Jesus died the day before the Sabbath and on the morning of the first day of the week he had risen.

Jesus never lied to anyone.. He did spend 3 nights and 3 days in the earth.. His body was in that tomb for the time He declared it would be there.. The belief that Jesus was executed on the 6th day is a tradition of men who did not understand the Jewish religious feasts, the holy convocations days, ( days where they where restricted from doing work ) where not just on the 7th day of the week.. Many where tied to dates of the month and could happen on different days depending on the year.. After Passover ( which was not a sabbath ) The very next day was a Sabbath no matter what day of the week it fell each year.. it was called the First day of Unleavened bread.. And this was the High Day Sabbath the Bible was talking about when they where hurriedly getting the body of Jesus into the tomb to avoid..

(John 19:31) "The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away."

So on the week of the execution of Jesus there were TWO sabbath days.. The Normal weekly sabbath that started on Friday sunset and ended on Saturday sunset.. And the First day of the feast of unleavened bread which started on Wednesday sunset and ended on Thursday sunset..

Does all this matter? As long as you believe he rose again, and that he died for our sins... it's all good.
