I am not sure that is true. The Greeks had their own Gods that they adhered to that was just as unquestioning as anything else. Indeed one religious system replaced another. But it would be incorrect to think that everyone in ancient Greece thought and behaved like Plato or Socrates.

@TheDeathOfOzymandiaz That is true. But then the Greek states were founded on philosophical rather than religious principles, unlike pretty much every country in the world today. Some fare better than others, but look where countries like the US are now - a country founded in intolerant Puritanical principles.
@SW-User Greek states weren't founded on philosophical ideals. The philosophical principles evolved within polytheistic states and particularly among the more affluent classes. That didn't stop them from praying to Zeus or visiting the Oracle at Delphi. They were just as superstitious as modern people but the superstitions were different.

@TheDeathOfOzymandiaz Thank you for correcting me. My post was essentially a thought that came to mind.

@SW-User Maybe the problem is Puritans not being very good Christians, rather than with Christians as whole! )))

SW-User
@YuliaC Well that is a possibility. But all religions are ultimately telling you to simply believe what you are told to believe.

@SW-User So is TV news or papers so not sure of difference really! ...

SW-User
@YuliaC Well, yes, but TV and newspapers do not threaten you with eternal damnation if you do not believe them.
