Philosophy in Ancient Greece was swept aside by Christianity

One system where people were initially encouraged to think for themselves was replaced by another where people were instead told to rely on blind faith.

That's progress for you.
I am not sure that is true. The Greeks had their own Gods that they adhered to that was just as unquestioning as anything else. Indeed one religious system replaced another. But it would be incorrect to think that everyone in ancient Greece thought and behaved like Plato or Socrates.
SW-User
@YuliaC Well that is a possibility. But all religions are ultimately telling you to simply believe what you are told to believe.

@SW-User So is TV news or papers so not sure of difference really! ...
SW-User
@YuliaC Well, yes, but TV and newspapers do not threaten you with eternal damnation if you do not believe them.

Umm, not really. Philosophy was still a big thing, until the ecroulement of the Roman Empire(s). Also, a lot of the philosophy taught then, didnt encourage you to think for yourselves, but tried to fit you with their predetermined answers (**cough*Aristotle*cough*)
I thought it was swept aside by brooms.

Wait so you are neglecting the fact that they worshiped a Pantheon? Zeus, Hera, Posieden etc.
Your comment is dis-proven by the European Renaissance, which took place under Christianity, yet encouraged progress and free thought.

Hm and Christianity was destroyed by globalism and the internet and replaced by a system of grievances and identity politics...is this really an improvement?

So we know nothing today of Greek Philosophy?
SW-User
@Zeusdelight We do, but think how much better things would be if we lived in a world governed by reason.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@SW-User Where as anywhere in the world ever been Governed by reason? We have had economic rationalists who applied reason until it cut across their needs and suddenly the rationalism was adjusted to take into account its effect on them.

The Love of Power and Influence will always work against reason.

@SW-User Christianity wasn't about the power trip of seeing and performing miracles. It was about a love that transforms.

It did not kill philosophy, some of the greatest Christian thinkers combined concepts from philosophy to allow a greater understanding of Christianity.

@SW-User So you do not argue the point that Christian Thinkers were influenced by Philosophies. Ok.

Some ancient ideas were rejected, but remember the Old Testament was not rejected and its ideas also reflected some of the philosophy and myths of the world.

Most people I know have been converted because of the love people show them.
