I Am A Christian
It's hard being a Christian, especially when Atheism seems more of a popular choice. For me, it would be nice to be able to have more Christian friends to share ideas with, just that sometimes friends come in all different shapes and sizes.I have a lot of friends who are atheists, I don't get to pick or choose who believes in what. Personally I don't care as long as they respect me as I respect them.
I was a catholic growing up, I got into other forms of beliefs that I wont speak about since people will run screaming from me. And then I became a Christian after being an atheist for a while.
I've had people(some) come up to me, realize I am Christian and say, "sorry, we live in two different worlds, I won't talk to you because of that". It does make me angry a bit, because some people either can't get along with someone of different beliefs or they feel the need to have self-validation by trying to convert me into atheism. Why do they need me to be one?Is it a form of self-validation?Do they feel their beliefs are more valid when there are more people who believe in what they do?Does it help them feel more secure?That's my question.I can't convince them God is real, they can't convince me he's not. It's a LOSING BATTLE.There's no use. I try to spread it in a positive way, but I won't force.
I dated an atheist for a while, dated a christian, dated a catholic. I never had much issues with either of them. IRONICALLY!!!I fought more often with my Christian bf over our "different beliefs" all the time. Just because we read from the same bible does not mean we are cut from the same cloth. I also will try to correct what I believe to be a "warped perspective" some people will seem to have. This can be something like, "Christians can't eat shellfish" or "women are being enslaved". Now maybe some other Christian might even believe this, but I'm not just "some other christian cut from the same cloth and made to be 100% the same". I like to say I'm not a "cookie cut person," meaning I wasn't and don't come in the same shape or size or have the same perspective as "all Christians". The bible is up to self-interpretation and people(some) seem to forget that not all Christians follow or believe the same things, and that's alright. You don't have to merge with every christian to be a christian.
I don't believe religion harms anyone, people harm others. People come up with ideas, people have free will, people are what makes things happen, and people are the ones who tend to cause their own mishaps and the mishaps of others. It is because we were given free will, that is why people die because of others or hurt because of others.
