Tips for dealing with a boss who is neurotic and micromanage-ey?

I am technically a contractor so they are considered a client. I just started the role 4 months ago.. my original boss was demoted and then was replaced with an even more incompetent boss who has no idea what they are doing and is super crazy… she calls me at 7am only to talk for two straight hours… then again at lunch… and another usually 1.5-2 hour convo at the end of the day.. like I’m not exaggerating it’s been going on every day for 3 weeks. I thought I would taper off and I also thought if I’m limit in my responses I could end the calls quickly but even my husband hears these conversations we put the phone on mute and the lady just keeps talking and talking and talking… she’s dramatic and makes assumptions about everyone even characterises my personality as being this or that and I’m like ..I’ve barely told you anything about my life and haven’t expressed any opinions. I’m literally here to do a job… I’m debating on if I should say something to her like gee you know I might be able to get more done if we keep our convos short.. or if I should go above her and let HR know how terrible she is at the job… she’s the owners sister in law so I just feel like I might be doomed either way.. lol any advice?

I have a line manager who is much the same and will engage me in a chat as I'm about to head home almost seemingly deliberately to make me as late as she can. Her conversations jump from one subject to the next without pause until I finally make an excuse to leave. She's also started phoning me in my own time, at home, under the excuse of something important she needs to ask or know, which normally starts with 'Sorry to bother you, but just a quick question etc. which then blends into a general conversation about other employees or my personal life.

I've got into the habit of not answering her calls at home and told my boss who told me that he thinks it's acceptable to be available to 'discuss important issues'from time to time. I don't get paid to discuss business at home though so as far as I'm concerned it's my time and I either ignore her calls or make excuses to get rid of her as soon as she starts wandering. It's got to the point where I no longer care if she knows I'm lying to get rid of her.

Are you actually supposed to be working at 7am?? If not, just ignore her calls.
