Richard Simmons, 1948-2024 R.I.P.

Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Curiously, 76 is not that old. It's below the average male life expectancy.

Simmons died at his home in Los Angeles on July 13, 2024, at the age of 76. He had suffered a fall at his home the day prior and refused to seek medical attention. Police said that his death appeared to be from natural causes. He was buried at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary.
@Tastyfrzz That does seem quite young, especially for someone who devoted his life to good health. When I read the notice of his passing, I don’t think they knew how it had happened.

@bijouxbroussard meanwhile George burns smoked a cigar every day and lived to be 100.
@Tastyfrzz My grandfather smoked a pipe and had a glass of whisky everyday, lived to be 95 and passed in his sleep. Remained sharp as a tack until that last evening he said goodnight.

Richard was a good person. He cared about people for real
@SeaGlass That was always my impression, as well.

I have heard he became very reclusive the past few years ..even to the point where they had a police wellness check

@bookerdana He avoided the press because he wanted to and recently said as much. They harrassed him relentlessly because they felt entitled to "know where he was" and "what he was doing" and when he didn't respond they concocted the cockamamie story about him being kept isolated by people around him.

He seemed like a sensitive soul. Diet culture was huge when I was growing up. My mom and aunt had his work out videos. I thought he was funny.

He certainly came across as a decent person, behind his at times over-the-top,perhaps slightly eccentric style.

Eddie Murphy portrayed him (among all the other roles he played) in the beginning of the 1996 film, The Nutty Professor.
