Bit of a fun fact: The 1971 film, Shaft was adapted from the novel of the same name by Ernest Tidyman. The main difference between the novel and the film was that Shaft in the novel was white.

@Sidewinder I read the novels years ago and don’t remember that. Ernest Tidyman was originally a newspaper reporter and he was white, but he occasionally wrote articles for black magazines and supposedly said he wanted to write about a black private eye. I could be mistaken, of course.
