I think he was one of the few Christians within most of popes and most of most of other non catholic preachers.

@ElRengo Just curious as to what you saw in him that you believe to be Christian? Curious not wanting to debate.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
Some attitudes opposite to what do and say someones that claim to be Christians and IMO are not.
IMO, of course.

@ElRengo Such as? I must be thick. I don't get what you mean.

I´m sure you don't get what I mean.
And no, I´m not saying that´s because you are thick.

@ElRengo I would like to know what you mean though. I guess what is your ideal Christian and how did Francis measure up to it?
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
For first I was not saying that Jorge was an "ideal" Christian.
Said that he was one of the few ones as Pope.

@ElRengo Ok then how do you define Christian.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
Sorry, I already had some interactions with you about other topics.
Your "debate" style is not an example of intellectual honesty.
In the end, only God will say who is at least near to be a good Christian.
Not me. Not you.
But I hope those ones will be people of god hearts.

@ElRengo I am simply asking for your idea of what a Christian is. I see a number of people on this thread who agrees with me that Francis was not a Christian. That does not mean that I am condemning him or lauding him. I am simply saying his teachings and the teachings of Jesus and Paul were very much at odds. That doesn't mean that God can not save him. It means in my mind that he didn't relay the teachings of Jesus accurately. From what I have been able to learn about the man and his teachings he was much more Marxist than Christian. I didn't come to that conclusion on my own. Many people who are catholic say the same thing. I don't think the atheist Marx and Jesus would have been friends had they walked this earth together.

@hippyjoe1955
Yes, some and not a few people may and surely agree with you.
A lot of others do not.
And I don´t think that Putin, Trump, Netanyahu, the Hamas leaders, Maduro, Ortega (and others of the kind) would have been friends of Jesus had they walked this earth together.
Again, not IMO.

@ElRengo So you think that Marx was a Christian?
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
No he was not
No he was not
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@ElRengo then you agree with me. Francis was a Marxist. He said so. He never said he was a Christian. He simply advised Christians on how to be Christian. Kind of like the blind leading the blind.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@ElRengo Then you disagree with him. He said he believed in Marxism.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
Would you please provide me a link to that?
No, don´t worry, I´ll look for it if exits.
Even so, you seem to believe that right wing ideas are THE sign of christianity (being you the one that objected with political criteria).

@ElRengo What is a link going to prove? He was of the Liberation Theology school of thought which is Marxist. Pope JPII tried to get rid of them all because they were not Christian or Catholic.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
A link MAY provide a documented source to his own words about, the specific ones you claim he explicitely said.
But anyhow you still avoid to be direct about being right winged as a necesary criteria for christianity.

@ElRengo No links prove nothing. Go do your own research on Liberation Theology if you want to know more.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
It was useful to ask for a link as you had to reformulate your specific claim.
I know about the history of Liberation Theology.
But again, you seem to hold a mainly political criteria for faith.
That seems a one sided view.
That is, to put out of christianity the ones in the left.
But to welcome as Christians the right winged ones.
If it´s not the case, say so.

@ElRengo I think politics should be completely ignored in Christian faith. I will not discuss it in Church. However when a church leader brings it up and Francis brought it up a lot then by that measure it will be measured.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
Agree, it will be measured.
As much as priests during the argentinian "Proceso" giving a "holy" blessing to torture instuments.
Or public support to right wing politicians from certain branches of church with "christian" arguments.
Nothing new under the Sun and along History to mask politics as God commands.
Almost same case as antiscientific politics masked as faith for what are ideological standings.

@ElRengo Yawn Nice litany of woes you have there. Sadly the left has killed a lot more than the right. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pot etc etc etc. Evil people do evil things. BTW I grew up in a church that had idolised Stalin.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955
I´m not idolising left wing dictators (though Hitler was an extreme right one, but that is another debate).
What I do not is to cover with that the crimes of the right.
And I have a direct experience about.
The point is (or one of them at least) that you rightly condemn one side.
And give your blessings to the other.
I do not.
