The most beloved Pope Francis has died today!

Aged only 88 he has succumbed to the respiratory infection which has dogged him the last few months, and even though he appeared in Saint Peter’s yesterday, and we were there in the crowds, again we rushed there this morning to hear that he died during the night.

He was very much a controversial figure and head of the Catholic Church ⛪ and his work at renewal was dogged by opposition by those who had become the problem for the Church’s vast estate at the head of the social problems which have mired the important work of the church worldwide.

He was slowed in his renewal by persistent ill health and hopefully whoever is elected to the triple crown 👑 and tiaras, will rekindle the spirit of Francis’s vision for the church.

I'm sorry for his going, especially if you admired him. I(a non-Catholic, but an admirer of the Roman Catholic church) felt that he didn't really have a vision for the church, but rather made tactical concessions to left-wing factions. I think the next Pope should be intellectually distinguished, broadly conservative but tolerant towards different opinions. And of course personally of high morality. Goodness (or perhaps God) knows who that might be.

I don't know how beloved he was. Most Catholics I know didn't care for him.

Such a shock considering he has just come out of hospital due to phenomena. Rip pope Francis

@Highskirt Was it really a shock, though???

I mean, we all saw Pope Francis sitting on that balcony, struggling to breathe and looking every inch a man who still needed to be in hospital, getting better.

He was still seriously sick the day he left the hospital
Agreed.

He was a worthy man to hold that consequential position.

He was an imposter and has caused much harm to the Church. Hopefully the next Pope is more akin to the true Pope Benedict XVI.
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
@Cierzo Do you really think the church is not in need of reform?
Cierzo · M
@MrAverage1965 The church needs to go back to pre-Vatican Council times
MartinII · 70-79, M
@MrAverage1965 What sort of reform? What the Roman Catholic church, like any church, needs is the courage of its own convictions.

Even more sad they're likely to replace him with a conservative. one of the people causing problems.
