What about Pope Benedict XVI? He resigned due to poor health.
Who would you like to be next pope?

@SW-User My point exactly.Having yet another Pope resign would set a now -clear precedent where a Pope could just quit whenever they didn't feel like doing the job anymore.It is supposed to be a LIFETIME appointment,and I personally don't want to see that change.It wouldn't be good for the institution of the Papacy .As far as who I would like to see elected,I'm hoping for a Pope who would be interested in being a spiritual leader and not a politician;a Pope who would steer the church back to traditional values.I don't believe Francis has done well in that regard;nonetheless ,I don't doubt that he is a sincere man in his own way,and I have no wish for him to suffer harm.

@DavidT8899 Pope Francis is a liberal character. The papa should be a spiritual leader who keeps the traditions.
There are several cardinals who may become pope, and a few are traditional. I heard about an American cardinal who is traditional, and one from Hungary who is traditional. Why would the other cardinals elect a liberal pope again?

@SW-User having been in seminary during some of the years of Pope Benedict Pope Benedict did not resign because of health he resigned because of pressure from Pope Francis who was not Pope at the time they were blaming him for stuff that happened before he was ever pope and he was pressured to resign.

@SW-User because most of the Cardinals now have been appointed by Pope Francis and are also liberal but I pray that God's hand will intervene and they will choose a person who can lead the church in the direction God wants.

@dale74 Well,for better or worse,an American is unlikely to be elected as the world fears a "superpower"Pope.

@DavidT8899 I never said and I would never expect an American to be elected Pope. I would probably expect someone from Africa to be our next Pope

@dale74 In a prefect world,it would be an Italian.

@DavidT8899 I doubt if there will be another Italian Pope in the next 200 years mainly because of how many italian popes there been in the past

@dale74 A shame,but you may be right.
