Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

I agree, I'm a Christian who doesn't go to church馃ぃ

Not that I disagree, but then what makes you a Christian?

PS Heathen is a term that comes from the heath. The word barbarian comes from the Greek barbaros, a repeating of bar - "bar bar" - conveying the idea of a stammering or unintelligible speech. It was applied to foreign speaking people. Of course, having been divided and conquered repeatedly, the average human has a proclivity to be somewhat xenophobic. Terms like pagan, meaning outside of, and heathen, meaning of the heath, began as terms denoting land owners and therefore respect, but were eventually corrupted into derogatory terms. People of the heath, or rural areas were more difficult for Roman soldiers and Christians to recruit. For the former because they were less likely to feel dependent upon and loyal to the government and to the latter because they were more likely to have adopted religious beliefs outside of the Judeo-Christian. Both of course were problematic due to the impractical geographic obstacles.

@BibleData I always thought being a Christian was to follow the teachings of Christ and to love people. You can that without being labelled or having church doctrine hammered into you.

So true on that.
You tell him, kid.
