Am I the only one who finds it odd that military helicopters would train over a civilian airport at night?

Not really. Worldwide many civilian airports share operations with the military. For example, at Kunsan there was a joint civilian/USAF/ROKAF airport.

And military training is held at all times of day. And all types of conditions. It has to be for military readiness.
