In modern wars why doesn’t the military make use of bombing air raids with a fleet of heavy bomber aircraft and fighter planes to protect the bombers?

Maybe because Warfare is fought with more laser-guided missiles. No need for "Carpet Blanket Bombing" anymore when you can be precise with your targeting.
