Are any of you military brats?

Were your parents in the military? Did you move around from place to place, make a den in WW2 derelict bomb shelters, help out at open days and generally have an awesome time?

If any of you were RAF brats, I was at the follow bases during the 80s and 90s

Gütersloh
Binbrook
Cottesmore

My mum and dad were both in the navy, mainly based at Devonport. My sisters and I spent most of our time in a boarding school for the sproglets of serving personnel, but I did have fun with the other children when we stayed at our parents' (fairly grim) MoD quarters. In the 1990s I had a great three weeks in Cyprus when I made friends with a military policeman who let me walk his dog on the beach 🙂

My Parents were both US Foreign Service and I served for 35+ years in both the US Army and USAF, not sure if that qualifies but I've been to and seen a lot of Bases, FOB's, Consulates and Embassies around the world, more of an FS brat than a Military one but I've known many who were.

@spjennifer That sounds familiar 🙂
I wasn't but I served

I played cricket against a team from Güttersloh in the 80s. We had an interesting evening afterwards 😬

@HeidiA If your dad was with the team that came down to Heidelberg, he probably enjoyed that weekend 🤣
HeidiA · 41-45, F
@SW-User I don’t think he was much of a cricketer but he certain had a blast in his RAF Germany days.😂

@HeidiA I don't think any of them were much of a cricketer, just an excuse for a weekend away 🤣

i wasn't a military brat but my dad's job moved the family around a lot. i lived on a base for a couple years overseas once it was tons of fun :)

Not in the formal sense , but my adoptive father was a retired Marine officer . I was raised like a boot, but I didn’t ever have to move .

Does MoD Civilian count?
I lived in a now flattened barrack block behind the wire at
RAF St Athan.
HeidiA · 41-45, F
@Philth I dunno, did you have to move from base to base?
Philth · 46-50, M
@HeidiA as each one got closed down, kinda 🧐
HeidiA · 41-45, F
@Philth I understand. I was sad to leave Binbrook when that closed.

I'm not officially a Military Brat but I did serve nine years in the British Air Force.
HeidiA · 41-45, F
@AirForce687 Are you sure? I’ve never heard it called the British air force before.
AirForce687 · 36-40, M
@HeidiA well i know it's not officially called that but i was saying that so you didn't think i served in the American Air Force
MarieUK · 36-40, F

I wasn’t a military brat. I was a military child. Best and worst times of my life.

I had a military parent but any moving around as a kid was not because of that
