Messing with an "auditor"

There's a trend online of people filming main gates of military and police sites to supposedly flag flaws in the security. In actual fact its to wind up whoever is on the gate by acting suspicious but staying within legal rights of being on public property therefore we have no jurisdiction. Doesn't stop us having a polite word with them. Onec such lad was filming the gate of our unit and rightfully so the fella on duty gave us a heads up to a suspicious individual. I go out as it was one of lads on gate and he said he heard the guy saying that the guard had no gun. So I walk over phone straight lifted into my face "May I ask what you are doing sir?" He wentvon a blabber about he was public land and he knew his rights yada yada I just smile and inform him "I understand that but you got to understand why we may consider your actions suspicious and this is a main access to the site so there is a lot of traffic". I just leave it at that and politely bid him farewell as I walk back to the gate pull up my radio "it's ok corporal stand down" within ear shot of him.

I'm sorry just because the lad checking passes might not be armed doesn't mean there won't be others nearby who are. We are marksmen here we don't need to be close.

I'd love to see him try that shit with the black guard those Scots are crazy.

I don't think they care on any level if you think it is suspicious.

@SW-User sadly the laws are not on our side when it comes to them all we can do is try and discourage them. They just want a rise out of us for the views

@Therifleman Why is that sad? Why shouldn't they be able to film your gate?

@SW-User the unit is a training site we are responsible for the safety of those who come through our gates if the footage goes online it adds to the potential risks of it being used to plan terrorism. A lot of the older guys I work with were around during the troubles when the IRA bombed not just military but civilian locations. That was before the days of youtube and camera phones imagine what damage people could do with the footage these people put up online. Pointing out the flaws is good if it's constructive by putting it out for the world to see it isn't it's opening up holes where others can use it to cause harm.

@Therifleman I understand that you don't like it, but I'm asking why it should be illegal. Those aren't reasonable reasons to make it illegal.

@SW-User it's the level ls of risks they add by posting it online if they filmed the brought it up with our higher ups that I can agree with but filming being openly obnoxious to get a reaction is borderline harassment we are just trying to do our jobs

As for those not being reasonable reasons please tell that to the guys who lost friends and family to terrorism.

@Therifleman Okay, I'll tell them if I ever see them and it comes up.
