How can anyone condone US support for the genocide in Yemen.

I simply don't understand it. Unless you just really hate Yemeni people and want them dead, I can't fathom any other reason why you'd think it's ok. Even if you completely disregard the fact that it's a humanitarian disaster, it's still costing all your tax money, violating the US Constitution, and violating international law. Like, how are you benefiting from it?

I don't understand at all why we are there and participating and backing this. What is the excuse behind why we are doing this?

@JaggedLittlePill It serves the interest of the American government not to upset the Saudis.

@JaggedLittlePill It all started in 1989 when Sunni-controlled Northern Yemen and Shi'a-controlled Southern Yemen went to war with each other. The conflict lasted about one year, and in 1990 the Sunni government was cast out and both Northern and Southern were unified under one Shi'ite government and simply called Yemen.

America hates Shi'a Islam though because of Iran and so the USA decided they couldn't let Yemen be controlled by Shi'ites, so they needed a way to kick out the Shi'ite government and reinstall the former Sunni leaders. They wanted to invade, but they couldn't because the international community would eviscerate the US politicians for doing so. Unlike Iraq with Saddam Hussein or Libya with Muammar Gaddafi, Yemen was not under the control of a tyrannical dictator who was abusing human rights, and so there was no convenient scapegoat to blame for an invasion plan.

So instead, America asked the Saudis if they could "contract" them. Basically, USA gives Saudi lots of weapons and money, and Saudi fights the war in Yemen in exchange. And this went on for quite some time until 2014 when the US-Saudi Coalition was born, and America formally joined the conflict.

Since then, the situation has gone from pretty bad to hell on Earth. The Coalition blockade has resulted in pestilence and famine because no food, water, or medicine is allowed into the country. The drinking supply is contaminated with cholera which is completely curable but no medicine is being allowed into Yemen so anyone with cholera is going to die. Pretty much everything in sight is being bombed, whether it be a school, a hospital, a post office, a bank, a marketplace, or even just large groups of people congregated together. It's an absolute fucking disaster.

@BlueMetalChick I did read about what was happening there...which is all very fucking sickening. I just did not know why and how it started. Admittedly, I have been ignorant to this topic until now.

This is fucked.

@JaggedLittlePill It is fucked, you're right. As of March of this year, the State Department reported about 93,000 confirmed deaths of Yemeni children aged 5 or younger due to starvation.

We starved almost one hundred thousand little kids to death. This shit keeps me awake at night.
