I've thought about it. It would give me some kind of direction, help with weight loss, with socializing, and give me an unwarranted status boost among civilian women. Considering how lost and empty I feel, it could be a way out of that.

But on the other hand, I'd be joining up with a lot of sophomoric and arrogant anti-intellectuals with a misguided moral compass. I'd have to accept the lie that my service is making a difference in the world. I'd have most of my freedoms revoked as my time become regimented and my options limited to a select range. I'd be removed from the comforts of home for years and end up coming back to a place I don't recognize and may not belong.

It's tough, but ultimately I'm leaning towards no.

Wow. Who pissed on your parade?

@sarabee1995 Do you have any specific criticisms or is this just knee-jerk jingoism?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@TinyViolins Both. But clearly you and I have no common ground upon which to base a conversation.

And I would ask you the same thing... Are your comments just knee-jerk jingoism or do you have something to back them up?
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@sarabee1995 Doesn't seem like it.

It's neither knee jerk nor remotely jingoistic. I've just had teammates and relatives join various branches of the military and I know what type of people they were and some of the things they did.

I've spent time in bars talking to vets and have seen TED Talks about the common struggles veterans encounter when coming back from war.

I'm not looking at it with red, white, and blue-tinted glasses, just recognizing patterns

@TinyViolins Where does this come from:
[c=#7700B2]"...sophomoric and arrogant anti-intellectuals..."[/c]
@sarabee1995 Experience. Mind you, I said "a lot of" these types. Doesn't mean all of them or even a majority, just a large number of people with no direction that just want to dipshit around. There's a reason the sexual assault rate for women in the military is about 40%
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@TinyViolins The statistic is not even close to 40%, but nice try.
