What’s wrong with having transgenders in the military?

xixgun · M
I will explain this one LAST time for all you 18-21 year olds who have never been in the military but like to tell how you "know so much" about it.

The military will not take in anyone with a medical condition which will require lifetime or specialized medication. Epilepsy, diabetes, and transgendered individuals (to name a few) are all treated equally. If a condition arises once an individual is in, they are usually given a medical discharge as the primary mission of any active duty military personnel is to go to war.

In war time, medications which need to be refrigerated or must be given at specific times, are impractical and impossible to keep and administer.

So, no, it is NOT the individuals and their proclivities or preferences which keep them out of the military; but their medical conditions.

Here endeth the lesson.

@xixgun Not all transgender individuals are transitioning at the time they are serving (and many have served already). To have a transgender ban is singling them out regardless of medical condition. Many with controllable diabetes have also served....and they are not banned (though some diabetics may be excluded due to their medical condition). I have served in the military, and I’m 64 years old....banning all transgenders from service IS singling them out and keeping them out of the military because of reasons other than simply medical.

@DragonFruit Luckily, it's not a concern you or I have to deal with.

To most of us the reaction is "nothing" but I would leave it up to the men & women who serve. It's like if someone wanted to hire someone at your job and plunk them down next to you...do you have a say in it? Normally no but if it's a life or death situation - I think they should have a voice in the decision. It's easy for us "couch sitters" to blather on about what's right and wrong but if your in a life/death situation...are you comfortable with you "has your six" as they say (your back)….just an opinion.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@luctoretemergo I served (US Army veteran), and I’d be happy having someone there who had my back, no matter what. I don’t care about cisgender, transgender, straight, gay or bi, male or female....give me a soldier who is trained and dedicated to be next to me in a combat situation. That’s my opinion.

Nothing. Trumps argument is he doesn’t want to pay for their medical needs
xixgun · M
@easterniowegin They also don't allow in epileptics and diabetics for similar reasons (medications).
But that doesn't fit with the "he's picking on me" narrative, so they don't discuss it.

@xixgun zeurosis? Military? What a laugh.
xixgun · M
@MasterLee my point
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Oh just a few issues
Freeranger · M
Unit cohesion....all the civilian's who comment as if tranny's in the military is something positive have never served. They're a bunch of uninformed cherries with no experience.

Giving people with mental health issues (gender dysphoria) an gun.

mental illness, since they are compromised

Nothing to me personally but they might be too “high maintenance” in the army
