Who is your favorite military commander?

Mine is Alexander Suvorov. He served under Catherine the Great and never lost a war against the Ottomans. He look absolutely badass too...

Oh yes the great Hannibal Bactra who bravely went against the might Roman Empire

Yes, indeed. He might have lost but that had more to do with the lack of support from his home city and the amazing capability of the Romans simply never to give up.

@Mugin16: He did made a gamble by crossing the Alps and defeating the Romans. He remains a towering legendary figure even now. WHat do you think about my fav, Suvorov?

It was a gamble of course but one that he pulled off (with heavy casualties) and that brought his home city some time. Do you know that his brother Hasdrubal crossed the Pyrenees and the Alps with far less casualties about a decade later? The Romans defeated him and his army before he could meet Hannibal and then threw his severed head in Hannibal's camp. Hannibal is said to have remarked when shown his brother's head: "Here I see the fate of Carthago".

@Neelaveni: I have recently read a book about the greatest military commmander of all times. Suvorov was mentioned too. I like that he served in the ranks first before he became an officier and that his troops loved him. He was known for his very quick campaigns. He crossed the Alps too, by the way, from Italy to Switzerland in 1799 when he was 69 years old.

@Mugin16: He was legendary for not losing a single battle that to against the mighty Ottomans. He brought pride and joy for Catherine the Great, during what was known as the Golden Age for Russia.

@Neelaveni: Yes, he never lost a battle. Not only against the Ottomans but also against the French, he never was defeated. After the death of Catherine the Great he was stripped of all his commands and titles by the new tsar who was jealous of his popularity. When he died, he was buried without any honours but after the tsar's death that was rectified. Even today he remains very popular in the Russian army.
