My ex was related to Catherine the Great, I remember hearing about Suvorov from them. Although she wasn't a general, I like Elanor of Acquitaine for her pure brilliance.
@Neelaveni: I have recently read a book about the greatest military commmander of all times. Suvorov was mentioned too. I like that he served in the ranks first before he became an officier and that his troops loved him. He was known for his very quick campaigns. He crossed the Alps too, by the way, from Italy to Switzerland in 1799 when he was 69 years old.
@Mugin16: He was legendary for not losing a single battle that to against the mighty Ottomans. He brought pride and joy for Catherine the Great, during what was known as the Golden Age for Russia.
@Neelaveni: Yes, he never lost a battle. Not only against the Ottomans but also against the French, he never was defeated. After the death of Catherine the Great he was stripped of all his commands and titles by the new tsar who was jealous of his popularity. When he died, he was buried without any honours but after the tsar's death that was rectified. Even today he remains very popular in the Russian army.
