I Hate My Job

I don't simply hate my job; I loathe it, detest it vehemently. The work my department does is quite important to the company continuing I function, but we are worst-treated, lowest paid, and always the eternal scapegoat for any issue. If something goes wrong, then we get blamed and berated. They expect perfection for the most meager of wages, and they expect it right now. All of the other departments are treated with such prestige and rewarded thusly with not only higher wages, but other amenities like frequent extended company paid lunches from fancy restaurants and awarded gift cards for trivial, mundane task and lauded with such lavish praise. I'm breaking my back, working my fingers to the bone for crumbs while they feast upon filet mignon for the most rudimentary of tasks.

I know what you are thinking. Get out, now; and I would but the market for IT jobs in this area is quite limited due to our wondrous, flourishing economy, and such brilliant government plans like NAFTA which eliminate high paying jobs here so companies can outsource to third world countries for a fraction of the cost. I would move, but I can't afford the expense. I've got applications out to several prospective employers, but it's a struggle working under these conditions. If I didn't have a family to support then I would seriously consider working for a fast food restaurant just to get away from this forsaken hellhole.

I'd love to go tell HR and the department director, "Oh yeah, I'm resigning from here to go work for the Burger Shack down the street. At least I'll have a chance to progress working for them, and I won't be treated like a second class citizen."

But I digress, it likely wouldn't be much better there, either. Oh well, enough venting; back to the grind.
