Would you get back into a job you hadn't had in a decade?

I was a nanny for nearly twenty years when I accepted my last job a decade ago in child care. I write sometimes about having low self worth and low esteem at SW because it is crippling. Grew up in severe abuse so over time I believed I was worth less than dirt. BUT ,one thing I could say positive about me, was that I was great with kids. Patient, loving and I did engage them in any way to learn new things.

Then because I got super anxiety about accompanying the toddler I was watching back then in an ambulance, (I have extreme anxiety as a passenger in vehicles), I never got a reference and the mom belittled me so much. The dad was very kind and thanked me for helping his sick child, Bec I had called 911. The toddler was so hot to the touch and vomiting excessively.

It took me YEARS to not think of myself as some bad nanny over that one day. I have not gone into child care for ten years because of it. But I'm slowly seeing the mom DID overreact and I am a good nanny. He was safe every moment getting to that hospital even if I wasn't in it with him.
But now, I only have one child care reference from years ago as an assistant teacher, and I'm unsure if I could use another nanny reference from a teen I watched, ten years ago too. Would two references that are from many years ago be enough?

It doesn't hurt to try. If it's something you know you enjoy go for it. And remember if you shot for the moon and miss you still land in the stars

@Cigarguys The only thing is I'm against nannies who have three or more references typically, and most of them will be recent. 😞 I'll probably be considered last having a decade old reference, and I do feel weird asking the woman for it so many years later. But I guess it could possibly work out if the right family likes me. Ty my friend

I would think those references might be helpful in the long run. I was a preschool teacher back after I graduated highschool. It was called Kinder Care, a very popular name back then. Lately within the last 20 years I was a caregiver for the elderly and it's all I want to do

@Baybreeze I don't think so. You might get lucky and have some kind of good report, if anything you might discuss some memories. Even the teen will put in a good word for you. It is worth at least a shot

@Baybreeze I think so too. And you are special for being a nanny. I have never done it but it sounds like a lot of satisfaction

That's true it might just be worth a shot🙂 Thanks Gemini🪻and yes being a nanny, you get so much gratification each day because it's like a new world all day for a little one!@GeminiRain @GeminiRain

For the right family those references will be more than fine. You may also want to get certified in CPR too. I hear that is a big one these days for child care.
