When I went to rehab because I was a drunk, I learned something fascinating about criminal behavior.

Most were there for drug abuse. Some were prostitutes, some were bangers. They all treated me with respect that bordered on embarrassing.

In conversation, they told me it wasn’t just the money or the drugs. It was the THRILL of the lifestyle.

Imagine that .. a liberal ..minimizing the negative aspects of a life of criminal activity ;-) 🤣

Look .. I get that environment and circumstances play a role in a lot of people getting involved in that life. Doesn't make glamorizing the life ok.

Two of the smartest people I ever met were young men of color who grew up very poor. The difference for them .. the family raising them insisted they not only achieve at school, but realize the full potential of their intellect. Both got degrees in Engineering. One went on to Ivy League for law school, a federal judge position for years and years in a private law firm. The other became a global VP of engineering for a pharma company. Two others under similar curcumstances also became engineers and went on to very successful careers of their own.

There is a path to a legitimate life making a better use of your skills and intellect than turning to grift. Wish more effort was put toward raising up those stories than this type of stuff.

I used to break into mountain restaurants when we were broke, I looked back on it fondly it was exhilarating. I didn’t take much, and I was always careful to fix the thing I broke to get in. Most people didn’t know they got broken in.
