Interview tomorrow 😳

I'm so nervous. I always am before an interview, doesn't matter what the job is. 🙃

This job is for a company that does background checks. From what I understand, if I get the job, I will undergo a period of training to learn legal terms and probably learn the software.
After training, my job will mostly consist of pulling up the criminal history of random people (for other companies), confirming that all the information is accurate to the information I already have, then doing data entry.

I'm not sure about anything else, but I looked the company up on Indeed to read the reviews that other people who have worked there left (I always do this, for any job), and though there were mixed reviews, most of what people said was tolerable if not positive.

Biggest complaints were "poor management" and "no real training". Which I have dealt with at every job I've ever had LOL. But the positive side is that most of the reviewers said it's a good job for introverts (yay!) and that even if management is poor, everyone there is pretty nice and friendly. They said the environment is kind of like...go in, sit at your desk, listen to your headphones, do your own thing at the best pace you can. Sounds pretty acceptable to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only things I am not sure about are:

When do I ask about FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act)?
When do I disclose my health issues? 😪

Another good site for this sort of thing is GlassDoor.com. Just in case you want to check more reviews. Glass Door will also often have salary information listed.

In my opinion, and answering the 2nd question first: You don't. If you did disclose, they can't legally use that as a reason to not hire you. But... It's so easy to come up with another reason - even something as basic as, "I just didn't feel any sort of connection during our interview" will cover it. And that doesn't even take into account unconsciously considering it in their mind. So, again in my opinion, at least for the first interview this is best left unsaid.

For your 1st question, I'll ask a question in return: what would you be asking about FMLA? It's pretty standardized across the country, thanks to the law.

All of that said... Best of luck!! 🍀🤗🍀🤗🍀🤗

@LeGrotesque I probably should have prefaced my previous post with the ol' standby "I'm not a lawyer" disclaimer. So let's go ahead and pretend I did. ;)

I don't want to ask you too many personal details, but... without getting into anything you may be uncomfortable sharing, can you say how your health issues were involved in being let go from your previous job?

@LookingForIt987 yes, I have several chronic conditions that make my periods really severe and painful, with heavy bleeding that bleeds THROUGH any protection I use.

On days when it's that bad, I have to stay home. Most company bathrooms are NOT set up for that kind of cleanup, and the pain is so severe that I can't focus on work anyway. I informed my last employer about this condition when I was hired, and they told me they would be flexible and "would not want you to come in if you're not feeling well".

Well. Fast forward a year, and they let me go due to what they called "excessive absences"... yet at the same time, one of my coworkers (a male) was having absences in a much shorter time span than what mine covered, and he was not let go. Later he requested 2 entire months off to recover from a surgery, which he was granted.

It was completely unfair to me that he was allowed to keep his job despite his health issues, yet I was released because of mine.

@LeGrotesque I'm so very sorry to hear that - both the chronic condition, as well as the company's shitty HR department.

You're definitely in a tricky situation. I can easily see how, "Why did you leave your last job" would require bringing up the health issue. If you were hired for the job, would you be able to provide HR with a doctor's note that covered the important details - like the fact that you'd be staying home is actually in everybody's interest due to bathroom cleanliness and safety? If so, I would suggest an answer to the question as something like this:

I have chronic medical issues that they knew about prior to hiring, and which I'd be happy to discuss further with you as well should things progress. In short, though, despite the documented issue and my willingness to make up missed time, they felt it was best if we parted ways.

Even though they were major league douchebags for letting you go under those conditions, it's never a good thing to trash the company or even your previous manager. It just about always reflects poorly on you instead of them when you go into those sorts of details. Ideally, you don't want to dwell on the issue during this interview; what you want is to make them generally aware of it, that you're willing to work with them to make up missed time, and that while having a chronic issue sucks ass it's something that you're used to at this point and you don't feel it would be an impediment to you doing a stellar job. Obviously, spin the wording into your style. ;)

I wish you all the luck that this post can muster in your favor! 🍀🤗🍀🤗🍀🤗🍀🤗

Interviews are always nerve racking, you don’t know them and they don’t know you.
I don’t think there’s any reason you would have to disclose any health issues, especially at this point.

@Quimliqer if they ask me why I was let go from my last job, I'm telling the truth. It was directly related to my health issues.

@LeGrotesque Let them see you do the job and if your health effects you from doing it ,take it from there hun
