My son picked up his first and maybe his last shift

With door dash yesterday

He picked up an order at Red Lobster and delivered it to a house 30 minutes away. He was paid $6 for the delivery. That $6 doesn’t even take into account his gas, mileage, taxes etc. which would have run him into a negative.

You live and learn

Give it another chance. I had a better experience with DoorDash.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@SinlessOnslaught he wants to try again tomorrow night.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@Jenny1234 Tell me if he has any questions. I did it for 3 years.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@SinlessOnslaught thank you!
Teslin · M
Wow, definitely not something I would want to do in retirement!!
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Teslin definitely not. But he’s a college student so he doesn’t have any expenses except his gas and spending money
Teslin · M
@Jenny1234 I wish him luck and a great college experience.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Teslin thankyou

Experiencing the realities often dims the glow that was once seen!

@Quimliqer Work can be rewarding.

There must be some rule protecting him from such low wages. I hope he was tipped well.

I wanted to send you my dragonfly image. I took this at NYC's Bronx Botanical Gardens. :

I've never done or looked into it much . I can only go by the uk experience.

Most are doing as a top up or side hassle job.
Depends on the area you're doing how busy and successful you can be
AnonymousJSS · 22-25, F
Damn. My first order was like $3.00 for like 5 miles. Now I average at like $20 an hour. It gets better, and quickly. Tell him to take orders that pay more than the miles he’ll drive.
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
I never order from those apps. There was a special on TV about the very thing you are talking about. The people who deliver are not sufficiently compensated.

Why is Door Dash so *&=)>?#@* cheap with its employees???
@bookerdana It's all the same Door Dash, Uber Eats, Deliveroo all pay a pittance to the delivery staff.

It helps to sign up for two or three and aim for double orders for the best pay rate - though you can only deliver from one company per delivery.
bookerdana · M
@HootyTheNightOwl stinks..what about regular uber???

No tip? That is where in my understanding, delivery drivers make a little money.
MrAboo · 36-40, M
I haven’t heard of good things from doordash locally
nedkelly · 61-69, M
welcome to the real world, time to find another job if possible
SW-User
But it is necessary for him to learn.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@SW-User yes but there are so many more jobs he can find that pay well while he’s going to college
SW-User
@Jenny1234 It is just a start. He will get to know how hard it is to earn money and thus way, he will respect the labour behind it and he will be a good man.
hellsbella · 46-50, F
I hope he gets paid better next time.
pdockal · 56-60, M
Tips ?????
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
Door Dash sucks. it's draconian. Tell him to work for Uber eats.
