Is it better to finish my college career and then move out?

I want to finish college and save more. I’ll get my associates and get a bachelors. Then I can move out. I told my friend before and she understood but she kept asking to be roommates as she prefers me as her roommate because she trusts me more and I won’t hurt her. I heard it isn’t a good idea and you don’t know unless you live together. I only have approximately $17,000 all together (checking and savings).
