Learn to accept criticism and deal with it. Learn to filter. Not all they say is true. But then maybe some are. You'll learn to be wiser by learning and being accepting of what you could improve on.
As for making your family proud...make yourself satisfied first. You get there when you know you're doing all you can for a goal you're set on. Don't make making them proud your goal. Be responsible for family. But pride comes to doing better today than you were doing yesterday. Take it one step at a time. Before you know it, you'd have gone a whole stairs.

Don’t set yourself up for failure by expecting something bad from the start. Try being optimistic about the job. And expect better outcomes.
