Rather than sending in tanks which are getting blown up by specialised anti-tank munitions, why doesn't the Russian military employ cheaper

civilian vehicles repurposed as military platforms (technicals)? I mean they don't have the armor or performance of a tank, but their tank armour isn't much use currently anyway so why wouldn't they be cruising about in jeeps and 4wDs instead?

They already tried that. Early on they stole hundreds of Ukraine civilian 4x4s and mounted .50 cal machine guns in the back, thinking apparently that the trucks were easier to fuel and less like to get stuck in the mud. Instead they found out that while a tank needs to be taken out with a specialized should fire weapon, a technical can be taken out with small arms fire.
