I really have no time for big business

Picture this.
Tasmania wants to enter the AFL - Australian Football League competition. The governing body said they must build a new stadium first. Stadium will cost upwards of $1 billion dollars.
Plans were approved; stadium will go ahead at a huge cost to the local community and the Australian public (jointly funded by the AFL, the Federal and State Governments)
Lo and behold, yesterday the consortium responsible for building the stadium has removed a major component of the stadium infrastructure. A two-storey underground carpark will no longer be built. The original plan was for a three-storey car park housing 532 car bays.
At a cost of $100 million, does that mean the total cost of the stadium will be reduce by that amount?
I bet the stadium will overrun it's total cost by at least 30%

I bet you are right. I get the part where Tassie deserves a team. I just wish the money for a stadium would be better spent on something less "sport". Or at least parlayed into something more multi purpose for the community who arent football fans..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman The stadium will only have 23,000 seats. $1 billion dollars for a miniscule number.
The stadium surely needs to be used year-round to justify such a cost for such a small number of spectators.

@Gusman Indeed. A concert venue for sure. And with the media equipment needed its crying out for use as a modern education/communications hub.😷

The first of no doubt many cracks appeared today regarding the new $1.115 Billion football stadium.
It has been announced today that the stadium will not be ready until at least 2031.
2 years after the original date set.

@Gusman That's what 🤔....
$43,000+ PER SEAT ?

Complete disconnect between want and reality isn't it.

We see the same everytime a top flight soccer team in the UK thinks it needs a bigger stadium to 'attract' more supporters.

If they were going to charge current prices for those extra seats, more folk might be encouraged to go.

Instead they'll want to have complicated levels of 'club membership' charging different prices for matches depending on how much you've already paid for your 'membership'.

Can't keep screwing the supporters in the hope they'll continually cover the expense of running the club.

@Picklebobble2 I guarantee the final cost will be at least 40% higher than stated.
Somewhere in the vicinity of $1.6 billion.

@Gusman A billion plus on anything is ridiculous in these times.
