Do you feed hummingbirds?

I just bought a feeder and have been reading that after a few days any remaining nectar has to be discarded and the feeder washed.

How often do you clean yours? Do you use soap and water or a vinegar solution?

I just witnessed the first one at my feeder!

I had been seeing them in my yard for the last couple days, so that's why I bought the feeder. This time I was prepared. 😊
@JimboSaturn Yes, they're quick. A few sips and they're gone.

We only clean ours every time we fill it, maybe once a week, unless there aren't as many hummers feeding and it looks like it needs it. Very warm water and just a little dawn. Did you make your own nectar or purchase it?

@MsSwan We've always make our own. Just personal preference. But I didn't care for the food coloring in the pre-made.
Hope you get much enjoyment from watching them.
@Magenta Thank you. ❤

They have one that was clear, but I got the colored one because it was a couple dollars cheaper. The label says the coloring is safe for them.

@MsSwan Ah ok, good. 🩷

I only wash it once a week or two. I don't use soap just rinse it. However I do pour the nectar into the feeder when it's boiling so it sterilizes it.

My dad did but I probably won't until retirement because you have to be diligent about keeping the feeders fresh and clean so they don't get sick and I just don't have it in me to stay on top of that.
@Starcrossed I'm a homemaker, so I have the time. 😊

@MsSwan I'd have ALLLLLL the feeders then. Including a hat where I'd just sit there perfectly still squeeeeeeing my little heart out when one came to the hat.

Honestly, it's a life goal. I'm pretty sure I'll cry when it happens.
@Starcrossed 😂 The guy on the bottom!
When I had a feeder I'd clean it every week, using soap and water.
@onrealityofdreams Just once a week?
@MsSwan I didn't have a lot of visitors so a weekly cleaning was enough.

There's a home of a college professor who has transformed their yard to a hummingbird sanctuary
They invite people to go there and witness it
They live in baiting hollow
@Ferric67 Wow, that must be a sight to see!
I do, i make my own nectar and wash once a week
