How do I stop people from making me sad by calling Native American spirituality superstitious?

My stepfather was like that but he abused me.

The term superstitious offends me and brings back traumatic flashbacks of my step daddy threatening me and abusing me for practicing my culture. He was an atheist.
You have to be like the character, Sarah, from Labyrinth. “You have no power over me.”
Pretty sure we argued this before. I like truth and abhor magical claims. My adage for a long time is: If it’s not science, it’s superstition. Why should I accept anything without evidence?

@BlueSkyKing My stepdad was like that and he abused me and threatened to cut my hair off for practicing my culture. He abused my mom too.
@Peaceandnamaste Being spiritual myself I can understand your pain and your stepdad is a horrible person but you shouldn’t compare any atheist to him since that would neither be fair nor accurate. Being atheist doesn't make someone abusive.

@BlueSkyKing I'm Native American and it gets me because my stepfather was a racist and likes to torment with this. That's why I get flashbacks when people tell me this.

Just don't tell people about things like that that's the route I go
