Have you guys heard of the desert ghoul? 🧞

In the Arabian folkloric sense?

It is considered a mythical creature that appears and disappears suddenly at night in the desert and dark isolated places.

It looks like a moving flame 🔥and believed to be a form of demon/jinn that leads people astray in the darkness to get them lost.

There are many sightings and stories of these strange lights since the ancient times.

They look like this:

Some people try to take a more scientific approach and say they are insects that reflect lights but nobody knows for sure. Many times they appear in absolute total darkness without any light source. Also they can be big. Like a ball of fire.

I don’t believe or disbelieve them but I find them intriguing for sure. Lol

Any similar stuff from your culture?

Nope. But we do know about the legends of "fairy lights" in bogs that lead travelers to their deaths. Travelers would be trying to traverse the bog, and suddenly a fairy light, (swamp gas), would ignite and move through the bog. The traveler would assume he was following a living being, and would drown.

Never heard of those 😶 Fascinating! They sound quite similar to desert ghouls. I would love to see a fantasy movie or a documentary about fairy lights. It appears to be that the purpose of those mythical creatures in different cultures is one. They lure humans by using their own curiosity against them @4meAndyou

@SW-User In the trilogy series "The Lord of the Rings", one of the Hobbits falls into a bog, and peers down into the water, and there he sees ancient dead warriors, and strange lights, and ancient weapons. It's a cultural tale which was embellished by the author, but it is also based on a little bit of fact.

In many northern European countries there are perfectly preserved ancient bodies being discovered in peat bogs. Archeologists believe that the peat in these bogs preserves the body somehow. I read an article about it, and they think that ancient civilizations used to sacrifice their kings and queens, or even young virgins, to appease the so called "gods" during times of famine.
