What do you want? [I Am Skeptical]

My older brother actually called to check in on me. We haven't spoke in years. He was never nice to me growing up and wasn't very nice to me as an adult either. Probably called to see if I was still alive so he could report it back to the family and everyone can have one loud collective group groan.

Come to think of it he probably did call to rub his success in my face. He did mention ever so casually our father retired a few years ago and he took his place. We all saw that coming. He was practically raised to take over from birth. That's not news. I could detect his smug face through the phone when he asked about what I was up to.

You are seeing his call through a lense of years of built up animosity. There is no way for any of us to assess if he meant good or not by calling you because we only are hearing your side and you start out saying that you don't have a good relationship and haven't spoken in years.
Do you know him well enough currently to detect his intentions?
What could he have said to you that would have shown you that he called because he wants to know how you are?

@REMsleep perhaps if the call was longer and showed more interest in what I've been up too instead of it feeling more of a brag fest. His tone of voice was telling too. I detected a condensating oh that's a shame tone when I told him about my living situation.

@SW-User Makes sense and you probably are 100% correct but just keep in mind that alot of people don't really know how to reach out especially if its been a long time. Its a very slight chance that he dosen't know how to talk to you.
