Are NDE's actually what so many people think they are?

I've had an interest in them for quite some time now, but I have to admit I do not think they're really all that special anymore, mainly because it seems as though far too many people now are trying to push some kind of (usually Christian) agenda with them.
And many of the stories are just SO cringey! "I was travelling on the wing of a butterfly, and I met my pet dog 'Rusty' that I had when I was a child, and then this angel came, and she had the most glowing, radiant blonde hair, and..."

Nope, I think these people are deluded. They're dreaming, or under the influence of a drug, or the procedure they're undergoing on the operating table has affected their brains.
