I Love the Cthulhu Mythos

Why did August Derleth have to introduce the Elder Gods as the "good" counterparts to the Great Old Ones in the Cthulhu mythos? It turned these higher, amoral entities into a generic struggle of good versus evil! The Great Old Ones aren't inherently evil, they just have as much regard for humanity as we do for insects. The idea was to make humanity's existence irrelevant in the grand scheme of the universe, which is controlled by cosmic entities that are beyond our comprehension. Now Cthulhu and all the other Great Old Ones are apparently just cruel jerks who the Elder Gods have to set straight once in a while. Lame. 🙄
