Do You Believe in Ghosts?

I just bought a new house.

My friend asked, "What if you only got a good deal on it because it is haunted?"

I said, "Then I will make a new friend."

In California, if a person died in a house, that must be disclosed to any buyer. This came up because my father passed away in his house. The buyers did not let us know if his ghost was haunting it; I assume he had better things to do.

In the afterword to the second edition of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Robert Pirsig explained that our relationships with each other are like a net, so when a person dies, it's like a hole is torn in the net and can be experienced as an entity of some kind. This isn't something you can interact with like a real person.

@LeopoldBloom I think I probably have something similar. Two owners ago was an older woman who passed away while she lived there. Sounds like she was a sweet person. I don't believe in ghosts. But if I did, I think someone who died peacefully from old age is probably going to be a kind spirit. Like she would bake me some ghost cookies or something.
